Do investment professionals know about impact investing?
This was the question posed in our latest survey in the CFA Institute Financial NewsBrief. For those unframiliar, the CFA?is a global community of more than 100,000 investment professionals working to build an investment industry where investors? interests come first, financial markets function at their best, and economies grow.?Designed specifically for CFA Institute members and other investment professionals, the Financial NewsBrief is a free daily e-mail newsletter that provides the latest financial news from around the world. It has more than 60,000 subscribers that include (but are not confined to) members of CFA Institute.
Poll: Which of the following statements best describes your awareness and understanding of impact investing?
?
We found that majority of the 727 respondents is unaware of impact investing. Around 20% are aware of impact investing but understand it vaguely. That leaves us with only about 15% of respondents who think they are aware of impact investing and understand it clearly.
This result is not surprising given that impact investing is a new field. It is unlikely to be covered in the finance curricula in academic or professional education. Unless they work in the sustainable and responsible investing (SRI) space, practitioners are more likely to come across it through their continuing professional development (CPD) activities.
According to the Global Impact Investing Network, ?Impact investments are investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return.? Going beyond traditional sustainable and responsible investing, impact investing is about intending, making and measuring a difference.
CFA Institute provides CPD content in impact investing. This content is generally available free of charge and without any registration requirement.
