'Real Housewives' Star Russell Armstrong Commits Suicide

'Real Housewives' Star Russell Armstrong Commits Suicide

Russell Armstrong, the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong, was found dead in his Los Angeles home Monday night after reportedly hanging himself. He was 47 years old.

LAPD spokesman Richard French tells People: "I can confirm that Mr. Armstrong was found dead from an apparent hanging in a residence on Mulholland Drive."

TMZ reports that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call from Mr. Armstrong's roommate. Armstrong was found hanging in his bedroom, and he was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m. Monday night.

Accorind to the Los Angeles Coroner, there was no suicide note found. While results of an autopsy and toxicology test are still pending, law enforcement officials tell TMZ that there were no drugs or alcohol found in the bedroom where Russell died.

The Armstrong marriage had gone through some rocky roads, as revealed in last season's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Taylor filed for divorce from her husband on July 15. She has since gone public with allegations that Russell was abusive during their marriage, calling her names, pushing her and throwing objects at her. Russell defended himself in the media onslaught that followed saying: "Did I push her? Yes, maybe things happened in the heat of the moment, but it was during a time in our lives that was not characteristic of who we were."

Russell also said, chillingly, "This show has literally pushed us to the limit."

Taylor and Russell have a 5-year-old daughter, Kennedy, and one can only imagine what that child must be going through. Taylor Armstrong, despite her comments about Russell's abusive behavior toward her, has had nothing but great things to say about him as a father. "He's an amazing dad," she said recently. "And I want (Kennedy) to still think her dad is the greatest guy on the planet."

According to TMZ, Taylor and Kennedy were notified of Russell's death on Monday night.

Bravo and the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills learned the news via TMZ. "All of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by this tragic news," a rep for Bravo tells TMZ. "Our sympathy and thoughts are with the Armstrong family at this difficult time."
